Nothing builds heat quite like genuine disdain between sworn enemies.

Colby Covington will take on onetime Ultimate Fighting Championship welterweight titleholder and former American Top Team stablemate Tyron Woodley in the UFC Fight Night 178 headliner on Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Battle lines were long ago drawn by the oil-and-water rivals who exist on opposite ends of the cultural and political spectrums.

Covington has rattled off seven wins over his past eight appearances, but he has not fought since he succumbed to fifth-round punches from Kamaru Usman in a failed bid to capture the welterweight crown at UFC 245 in December. The 32-year-old MMA Masters export has pieced together a 10-2 record since he joined the UFC roster a little more than six years ago. Woodley, meanwhile, limps into the grudge match on the heels of back-to-back losses to the aforementioned Usman and the surging Gilbert Burns. He has been finished just once—by Nate Marquardt—in his 25-fight career.

UFC Fight Night “Covington vs. Woodley”—which streams live to ESPN+ at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT—features a welterweight co-main event matching Donald Cerrone with Niko Price, a light heavyweight tilt slotting Johnny Walker opposite Ryan Spann, a strawweight affair pitting Mackenzie Dern against Randa Markos and a pair of middleweight scraps, as Khamzat Chimaev meets Gerald Meerschaert and Kevin Holland tackles Darren Stewart. ESPN+ will also stream the entire eight-fight undercard at 5 p.m. ET/2 p.m. PT, anchored by a featherweight confrontation between Mirsad Bektic and Damon Jackson.
