By The Numbers: UFC 270

Francis Ngannou has finally proven that he is more than just a knockout artist.

“The Predator” showcased a different element to his game in the UFC 270 headliner, setting a career high for takedowns in a unanimous decision triumph over former training partner Ciryl Gane on Saturday at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. It is the first successful title defense for Ngannou, who silenced naysayers who claimed that he would be unable to win a fight that went into deep waters.

Here is a by-the-numbers look at UFC 270, with statistics courtesy of UFCStats.com.

4: Takedowns landed in five attempts by Ngannou against Gane. In his previous 13 Octagon appearances, Ngannou attempted a grand total of three takedowns, landing one against Stipe Miocic at UFC 260.

0: Takedowns landed by Gane opponents in his previous seven UFC bouts.

8:29: Total control time for Ngannou. Gane, meanwhile logged just 2:51 of control time while attempting three submissions, including two in the final stanza.

6: Consecutive wins for Ngannou, tying him for the fifth longest winning streak in UFC heavyweight history. In the process, “The Predator ended Gane’s seven-bout winning streak, which was tied for the second longest at heavyweight.

63: Significant strikes landed by Gane. By comparison, Ngannou landed 43. It is the first time Ngannou has been outlanded by an opponent in victory. Gane was the more accurate striker, landing 69 percent of his significant strikes to Ngannou’s 41 percent.

3: Knockdowns landed by Deiveson Figueiredo in a unanimous decision triumph over Brandon Moreno in their flyweight championship trilogy. Figueiredo floored his opponent twice in Round 3 and once in Round 5, helping propel him to a unanimous decision triumph. The Brazilian failed to drop Moreno even once in their first two bouts.

1: Two-time flyweight champion in UFC history, as Figueiredo became the first 125-pound athlete to accomplish the feat by regaining the title he lost to Moreno at UFC 263 last June.

11: Career knockdowns landed by Figueiredo in 13 UFC bouts.

105: Significant strikes landed by Moreno. By comparison, Figueiredo landed 86. Moreno outlanded his opponent 28 to 19 in Round 2, 26 to 19 in Round 3, 20 to 15 in Round 4 and 21 to 18 in Round 5. Figueiredo, meanwhile, held a 15-to-10 advantage in significant strikes in the opening stanza.

2: Takedowns landed in 11 attempts by Figueiredo, an 18 percent success rate. Moreno landed just one of his two attempts.

62: Significant strikes by which Michel Pereira outlanded Andre Fialho in their featured welterweight encounter. “Demolidor” defeated Fialho via unanimous decision for his fourth consecutive UFC triumph.

0:47: Time of Said Nurmagomedov’s first-round guillotine of Cody Stamman, making it the third-fastest submission in UFC bantamweight history. Patrick William’s 23-second tapout of of Alejandro Perez at UFC 188 ranks No. 1, while Brett Johns’ 30-second calf slicer win against Joe Soto at “The Ultimate Fighter 26” finale checks in second.

10: Career KO/TKO wins among 13 professional victories for Ecuador’s Michael Morales, who secured his first UFC triumph with a first-round stoppage of Trevin Giles 4:06 into the opening round of their welterweight matchup.

11: Takedowns landed in 15 attempts by Tony Gravely in a unanimous decision triumph over Saimon Oliveira in a preliminary bantamweight affair. That total is tied for the second most in UFC bantamweight history behind Merab Dvalishvili’s 12 takedowns landed against Casey Kenney in February 2020.

11:28: Total control time for Gravely in the 15-minute bout. Oliveira logged just 15 seconds of control time in defeat.

315: Combined significant strikes landed by Victor Henry (181) and Raoni Barcelos (134) in their preliminary bantamweight clash, the most in the history of the division for a three-round 135-pound clash. It ranks second in bantamweight history overall behind the five-round title tilt between Petr Yan and Cory Sandhagen at UFC 267, where both competitors combined for 318 significant strikes.

4: Knockdowns for Matt Frevola in a first-round technical victory against Genaro Valdez at lightweight, tying him with Josh Emmett and Khalil Rountree for the single-round record in a UFC bout. Frevola finished Valdez at the 3:15 mark of Round 1.

50: Significant strike advantage for Frevola, who outlanded Valdez 60 to 10 in significant strikes and 71 to 10 in total strikes.

.370: Percentage of women’s UFC bouts that have ended via armbar (39 of 105) since the promotion added female divisions in 2013. That includes Vanessa Demopoulos’ armbar win over Silvana Gomez Juarez on Saturday. In that same period, 45 of 633 men’s bouts have ended via armbar — a seven percent rate.
