Jenkins vs. Mariscal

Featherweights

Jack Jenkins (12-2, 2-0 UFC) vs. Jose Mariscal (14-6, 1-0 UFC)

ODDS: Jenkins (-205), Mariscal (+170)

This should be another fun exercise involving Jenkins. Signed off Dana White’s Contender Series in 2022, the Australian made his UFC debut in February and looks set to essentially hit the ground running as a featherweight stalwart. Jenkins does not have the type of explosive athleticism that suggests a run towards title contention is in the cards, but he is well-rounded, durable and kicks like a horse, leading to some entertaining scraps he can usually gut out. His win over Don Shainis in February was a highlight of the UFC’s last trip to Australia, and after scraping by against Jamall Emmers in June, “Phar” returns to take on a recent UFC signee here. Mariscal certainly earned his late-notice UFC shot earlier this year, as “Chepe” has plugged away on the regional scene while taking on a number of future UFC fighters. Given that he was often the nail and rarely the hammer against that opposition, winning his debut over Trevor Peek in an engaging war was a nice proof of concept that Mariscal can make his brawling style work inside the Octagon. He should be a willing dance partner for a back-and-forth fight against Jenkins, but the Australian looks to be the much more thoughtful fighter, along with having some wrestling in his back pocket. The pick is Jenkins via decision.
