Before Joanna Jedrzejczyk could become UFC strawweight champion, she had to get through Claudia Gadelha. Now, it appears that Gadelha will have a chance for revenge.

Dana White confirmed during Saturday’s UFC 190 post-fight show on Fox Sports 1 that Gadelha will be next in the to face the reigning 115-pound queen. The UFC President did not announce a date for the Jedrzejczyk-Gadelha rematch.

Gadelha earned her shot by handing former World Series of Fighting strawweight ruler Jessica Aguilar her first defeat since 2010. The Brazilian battered and bloodied her foe with punching combinations while landing takedowns in each round to cruise to a unanimous verdict in the opening main card bout at UFC 190.

“She looked amazing tonight, she did,” White said. “Against a very well-respected opponent she looked amazing.”

Gadelha gave Jedrzejczyk all she could handle when the two strawweights squared off at UFC on Fox 13 before dropping a closely-contested spit decision. Controversy ensued after the bout, as the Nova Uniao product appeared to throw a right hook at her opponent after the third-round concluded. White quickly dismissed the incident, however.

“As soon as [Gadelha] did it to her, she reached her hand out and she apologized to her,” White said at the event’s post-fight press conference. “Those two had a war; they’re in the heat of the battle. [Jedrzejczyk] landed a kick, the bell rang and then [Gadelha] hit her with a punch. And then she completely apologized for doing it.”

Jedrzejczyk would go on to capture 115-pound gold with a second-round knockout of Carla Esparza at UFC 185 and made her first title defense with a third-round stoppage of Jessica Penne on June 20. Saturday marked Gadelha’s first appearance since falling to Jedrzejczyk this past December.
