According to a report from MMAjunkie.com on Tuesday, Penn has suffered an injury in training and will not be able to face Ricardo Lamas in the UFC Fight Night 97 headliner in Manila on Oct. 15. The withdrawal has not been announced by the UFC, and it is unclear if the promotion will be able to find a replacement opponent for Lamas on short notice.

UFC Fight Night takes place at the Mall of Asia Arena and includes a heavyweight tilt between Derrick Lewis and Marcin Tybura. The entire card will be available on UFC Fight Pass.

Penn retired following a lopsided loss to Frankie Edgar at “The Ultimate Fighter 19” finale on July 6, 2014. Once he announced his return, a sexual assault accusation and an anti-doping violation put his fighting plans on hold. Before Lamas, Penn was booked in proposed bouts at UFC 199 against Dennis Siver and then, Cole Miller.

Lamas, a former featherweight title challenger, last appeared at UFC 199, where he suffered a unanimous decision defeat to Max Holloway.
