Khalil Rountree Breaks Down Custom Shorts Design for UFC Baku

Khalil Rountree will be sporting custom shorts for the first time in his career at UFC Baku this weekend.

Rountree will headline UFC on ABC 8 against Jamahal Hill on Saturday at the Baku Crystal Hall in Baku, Azerbaijan. Rountree will walk out in custom shorts designed by UFC Unrivaled by Venum in close collaboration with the fighter himself.

The shorts are designed to be a complete representation of the former light heavyweight title challenger. They include muay thai tattoos like the ones Rountree has and also some exact replicas of his back tattoos. The lower half of the shorts have rugged lines representing the landscape of Rountree’s hometown, Las Vegas. The shorts are divided into white and grey, adding a yin-yang element, representing the duality of Rountree’s personality. While Rountree is known as a violent knockout artist inside the Octagon, he believes he is a “chill” guy outside of it.

“The tattoos that I got in Thailand just to show my appreciation for the martial art of muay thai. And it’s got my actual tattoos that I have on my back… So these really are personal to me. It’s really cool. It’s everything that I represent all in one short… I definitely wanted to put some type of Vegas element to it because that’s just my home and home of the UFC… So there’s like some mountains to kind of represent the landscape of Vegas… And also my personality. When I fight people know me as this vicious striker but then normally I feel like I’m kind of a chill guy. So there’s a bit of a yin-yang element to it to just represent my contrast in personality.”

Rountree emerged as a dark horse light heavyweight title contender last year with five straight wins, including four finishes. “The War Horse” proved himself worthy of the shot by putting up a valiant effort in a fourth-round stoppage loss against Alex Pereira at UFC 307. Meanwhile, Hill has now suffered consecutive stoppage losses, first in a failed title challenge against Pereira, followed by a chaotic knockout loss against Jiri Prochazka
