Conor McGregor, Other UFC Fighters Volunteer for Potential White House Card
A number of
Ultimate Fighting Championship fighters have already raised
their hands for a chance to fight at the White House.
At a “Salute to America” event in Iowa on Thursday, President Donald Trump spoke about UFC head Dana White, while suggesting that the organization was planning on hosting an event on White House grounds next year. As part of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the Executive Branch plans a series of celebratory events in and around Washington, D.C. The promotion reposted Trump’s announcement on social media, seemingly confirming that this was indeed under consideration.
Shortly after this news came to light, numerous fighters made their
pitch to be included in this show that could potentially be held on
July 4, 2026—a Saturday. While details are scarce as to whether
this would actually be held on the grounds of the White House or
simply in a local arena like the Capital One Arena, athletes wish
to be a part of this possibly historic show. Among those willing to
participate include a competitor who has been out of action since
July 2021.
One of the first to chime in with interest on fighting at this event was the “Notorious” Conor McGregor. The Irishman made the pitch on social media, posting a photo of himself with Trump, writing, “Happy 4th of July, USA. Excited with President Trump announcing a UFC fight event at the White House. I would be honoured! Count me in!” This suggestion comes despite McGregor back in the news for possibly being under investigation for perjuring himself during testimony of his sexual assault trial.
The infamous former two-division champ is far from the only competitor who asked for a chance to fight at this show. Of note, Terrance McKinney, Billy Quarantillo and Matt Frevola were a few of the names wanting in. The first of those three stated on social media, “Just heard Trump is gonna have UFC fights at the White House and I’d love to KO someone on the grounds of America’s capital in the name of independence.”
