The Ultimate Fighting Championship planted its flag in Brazil for the first time since before the pandemic, bringing a jam-packed show that delivered dramatic results and boatloads of emotion. Plenty of locals had their hands raised, but when it mattered most, the biggest name Brazilians fell short of the finish line. UFC 283 featured a pair of legends calling it quits upon defeat, a one-sided shellacking that may not soon be matched and a pair of debuting brothers that dazzled.

Eight Hours: The promotion stacked UFC 283 with 15 fights, tied for the most on any one UFC event. UFC 2, UFC on ESPN 14 and UFC 259 all had 15 bouts on their lineups as well.

Lots of Fists on Faces: Across those 15 fights, the 30 combatants landed 1,634 significant strikes from bell to bell. That tally places UFC 283 in the top 10 for the most strikes landed at any UFC card, with UFC 268’s 1,973 maintaining that top spot.

Sheer Numbers Game: At night’s end, 10 of the 15 matches on the billing ended inside the distance. This falls one shy of the modern era record of 11 held by UFC Fight Night 55 along with UFCs 224 and 281.

Champs Wanted, Apply Within: For seven days until Hill claimed the vacant 205-pound strap, the UFC had neither a heavyweight nor a light heavyweight champion. This marked the first stretch since the latter division’s inception in late 1997 that neither division had a king on its respective throne.

Alien Invasion Tomato Monster Brazilian Armada Brothers: For the first time in promotional history, two brothers made their UFC debuts at the same event. Gabriel Bonfim and Ismael Bonfim appeared for the first time, and each performed a spectacular finish.

Keeper of the Zero: Three fighters – Brunno Ferreira, G. Bonfim and Daniel Marcos – entered UFC 283 with undefeated records. Not only did all three end their nights with wins, but they all finished their opponents.

Volume is King: Over 25 minutes, Jamahal Hill connected with 232 significant strikes to win the ownerless UFC 205-pound strap against Glover Teixeira. This is the most from one fighter in a UFC light heavyweight contest, passing Marvin Vettori’s 190 on Paulo Costa in 2021, and the fifth-most in any UFC match.

Dana White’s Championship Series: Hill became the first graduate from Dana White's Contender Series to claim a UFC throne. He is the third to fight for one, with Alex Perez and Taila Santos the first two to try and fail.

Happy Trails, Glover T: After his loss, Teixeira retired. He ends his career with a litany of records in his native 205-pound division, including: the second-most wins (16), most finishes (13), most submissions (seven) and most post-fight bonuses (10).

The Fifth is Coming: Brandon Moreno vs. Deiveson Figueiredo marked the first tetralogy in promotional history. Figueiredo also set a UFC record by facing Moreno four times in a row, but Moreno cannot say the same about Figueiredo, having fought Kai Kara-France in between the third and fourth fights in the championship quartet.

Satisfaction Not Guaranteed: Due to damage around the champ’s right eye, the doctor called a halt to Moreno-Figueiredo at the end of Round 3 at 5:00. That is good for the seventh championship match in company history to end between rounds and the first since Max Holloway vs. Brian Ortega in 2018.

Eye Assassin: The finish for “The Assassin Baby” was his sixth, tying him with Joseph Benavidez and Alexandre Pantoja for the third-most in flyweight history. Demetrious Johnson and Figueiredo both earned seven as 125-pounders in the Octagon.

Burning Desire: In the first round, Gilbert Burns overwhelmed Neil Magny to submit him with an arm-triangle choke. This marked Burns’ first submission victory as a welterweight, having made first entered the division back in his debut UFC match in 2014.

Many for Magny: Albeit in a losing effort, Magny entered into his 29th fight as a UFC welterweight. This ties Matt Brown for the most in divisional history.

Achilles Neck: The submission defeat for Magny was his fifth on the roster. Only two fighters in organizational history have suffered more losses by sub than Magny: Melvin Guillard (six) and Clay Guida (seven).

Dual Division Threat: Jessica Andrade connected with 231 significant strikes in her 15-minute destruction of Lauren Murphy. That number exceeds the record for the most landed by a female fighter in the Octagon, passing Joanna Jedrzejczyk’s record of 225 against Andrade in 2017.

Pummeled: Andrade’s 231 sig strikes account for the second-most of any three-round fight in organizational history. Nate Diaz’s 238 against Donald Cerrone hold the top spot in that category.

It’s Time for Nunes vs. Andrade: In a minuscule class of UFC fighters to register at least three wins in three different weight classes, Andrade posted her third victory as a flyweight. Overall, Andrade has prevailed 15 times inside the Octagon, joining Amanda Nunes with the most of any female UFC competitor.

Harvesting Potential: Johnny Walker smote Paul Craig with punches and standing-to-ground hammerfists in the first round to put himself on his first win streak since 2019. As a pro, the Brazilian entertainer has earned finishes in 95% of his triumphs.

See You, Space Shogun: Mauricio Rua called it quits after a first-round knockout loss to Ihor Potieria. “Shogun” leaves the sport with 24 appearances in the UFC’s light heavyweight division – a record – not counting his 13 historic fights with Pride. Finishing in the top five for the most stoppage wins at 205 pounds; he trails only Chuck Liddell’s nine for the most knockouts (eight).

Terminated Robocop: Ferreira came in as a hefty underdog and blasted Gregory Rodrigues in the first round. The 30-year-old UFC newcomer advanced his record to 10-0 as a pro, with all 10 coming in 6:08 or less.

Happy Bonfamily: G. Bonfim throttled Mounir Lazzez in 49 seconds to earn the sixth-quickest submission in the UFC’s 170-pound division. It marked the fourth-fastest for a fighter making his first walk to the Octagon, taking more time than only Dennis Hallman, Roman Mitichyan and Mickey Gall’s debut submissions in 2000, 2007 and 2016, respectively.

Fought Like He Was Double Parked: The welterweight Bonfim is still undefeated as a pro after snaring Lazzez with a guillotine choke. He has finished all 14 of those opponents inside the distance, with half of those coming in the first round.

Jailbreak: Jailton Almeida drummed out Shamil Abdurakhimov in the second round to keep his 100% finish rate intact. Across his 18 wins, “Malhadinho” has only needed to fight beyond the first round on five occasions.

Bonfim Bonanza: Ismail Bonfim blew Terrance McKinney away with a flying knee in the second round to make his first UFC splash. In doing so, he ended an eight-fight stretch for McKinney where every bout ended in the opening frame, win or lose.

But Was It a Good Fight? The three-round decision between Josiane Nunes and Zarah Fairn dos Santos combined for 219 significant strikes scored. This tally accounts for the second-most in a UFC women’s featherweight match, behind only Joselyn Edwards vs. Ramona Pascual’s 227 in 2022.

X Marcos the Spot: Peruvian newcomer Marcos battered Saimon Oliveira with knees to the body and follow-up punches to improve his spotless record to 14-0. While a majority of his wins have come by knockout, just three of 14 have come in the first frame.

Never Say Never Again: Coming into UFC 283, Figueiredo (24 fights) and Oliveira (22 fights) had never been knocked out (24 fights), Lazzez had never been submitted (13 fights) and Luan Lacerda had never lost on the scorecards (13 fights).

A UFC Intern Goofed: The lion’s share of Rua’s UFC tenure had him accompanied by Armin van Buuren’s “Sail” for his walkout tune. In his last two fights, Rua instead changed the song to “Sail” by Awolnation and lost both of those two.

My Team and Me: For nine of her last 10 outings, Andrade has walked out to “PRVT e Hora de Vencer” by Faccao 288, also known as the theme song for her team of Parana Vale Tudo. Her winning percentage stands at a stellar .778 when using this tune.
